Continuing Legal Education

Among the benefits of membership in TMAA are CLE programs specifically for municipal practitioners. The Association generally does two (2) programs each year, one in February or thereabouts and another in conjunction with the Tennessee Municipal League conference in June. These programs generally run all day and provide about six (6) total hours of CLE credit. One and a half (1-1/2) hours generally are devoted to ethics issues for city attorneys. The registration fees for these seminars are very reasonable.

Email Forum

A computer e-mail forum sponsored by TMAA offers an opportunity to share information and pose questions to municipal attorneys throughout Tennessee by sending a single e-mail message. All municipal attorneys are welcome to join the forum. To join, contact TMAA.

“If there are any members who have not joined the TMAA Email Forum, I highly suggest you subscribe. It’s been very active and incredibly helpful” — Andy Wright, TMAA member

Municipal Policy and Legislation

Membership provides the ability to affect municipal policy and legislation through affiliation with the Tennessee Municipal League and municipal case law through amicus briefs filed by the Association.

Networking

Networking and friendship with other attorneys and municipal practitioners. Much information and many experiences are shared at each meeting of the TMAA on an informal one-on-one basis or in small impromptu groups. And one of the greatest legacies of any organization is the fostering of enduring friendships that transcend the common profession. TMAA serves as a vehicle for these experiences.
